It's not surprising that this past Saturday night Democrats and Liberals would be celebrating tyranny in the United States. With a vote of 220-215 in support of tyranny it's such a grand thing that even one Republican voted in favor of it. Of course that said Republican from Louisiana was promised extra funds for the rebuilding of his district, but all is ok as long as it's in the name of tyranny. Are we being a bit out of bounds with our description here on what was voted on Saturday night? We don't think so. Most people would think that health care reform is a good thing, and even we don't disagree with that. We do disagree however with a bill that says you 'shall' do so many things or face stiff penalties, even imprisonment if you do not adhere to what the government tells you to do. No that's not refrom, that's tyranny by legislation.
As we said, we don't deny the need for reform. The type of reform that's needed though, is quite the opposite from what this current government is proposing. Liberals and Democrats feel that more regulation is needed to help curve the costs of health care and to help make sure those who do not have insurance, get the coverage that they might need. We say might need because not everyone needs or wants health care coverage, but the government never takes that into their assessment of the issue, just the fact that people are out there without it. They fail to recognize the millions of people who are young and healthy and would rather start building their life than wasting their money away on health care that even their doctors say they don't need at that point in their lives. So why is this government so persistent in trying to put everyone onto one big plan? Control is what we believe it is.
There's a 2.5% tax on your income in their bill if you fail to obtain health insurance of some form, and an 8% tax on payroll for many businesses who don't cover their employees. Then there's an extra 5.4% added to the income tax for individuals making $500,000 a year, $1 million for families, and then of course the taxation of large private insurance plans as well. Now some of you may not have sympathy for the extra income tax on high-income earners, but those high-income earners often include small businesses who file as individuals to save money rather than incorporating themselves and pay the horrendous corporate tax that corporations have to pay. All of this sounds like tyranny to us in the name of health care reform. They're taking away liberty by forcing people to buy a product that they may not want or need. All of this is supposed to reign in costs, but in all reality it will do quite the opposite; especially when you factor in the government-run option that's included in the tyrannical bill. On top of that the forcing of insurance companies to cover everyone will do nothing to help at all and make things much worse. So how else could costs be brought down?
It would truly simple to bring down costs in health care. Simple economics tell congressional leaders exactly how to get costs down. The problem being with health care today is there's a closed market. If you want to have health coverage as an individual, you cannot buy a health insurance policy unless that policy is solely based out of the state in which you live in. If you see a policy based out of a neighboring state that costs much less than yours, you're stuck. Due to federal laws currently on the books, an insurance company must operate fully and only serve people within the state of which they operate. Blue Cross for instance has several sub-divisions for each state that it operates in. That's why you see; BCBS of Texas, BCBS of California, BCBS of Georgia, etc. You never just see 'BCBS' by itself because they have to maintain separate operations. Imagine the millions of dollars that BCBS could save if they were able to just have one central corporate office or just a few regional offices. Those are just an example of the costs that could be passed down to the policy holders. An open market would allow such a thing to happen, but as we stated, current regulations do not allow for this to happen.
Members of Congress are pushing the agenda of a government-run plan that would 'compete' with health insurance providers on a national level. The problem with that is that not even insurance companies can compete with each other on a national level. How does that make any rational sense? The government has a complete marketplace at their finger tips and insurance companies are restricted to the individual states? That doesn't sound like competition, that sounds like trying to monopolize the system where government can eventually become the soul provider of health care. Of course we suppose that's why even further regulations are being pushed on the insurance companies as well.
Democrats have been pushing the main point that no longer will insurance companies be able to deny coverage to individuals who have pre-existing conditions, nor charge higher premiums based on the risk that the insured individual poses upon their company. Basically, that means if you have cancer and have no insurance policy, then you can apply for a premium at BCBS and they cannot deny you coverage at an average cost. You pay a few hundred a month for your policy right away and they spend hundreds of thousands if not more on your treatments. How does this make any good business sense for an insurance company? The fact of the matter is, it doesn't. For insurance companies to even begin to support such a notion, costs would have to rise all across the board. When costs end up rising due to the overflow of patients that insurance companies can't afford to eat up on their own, then the government-run option which has set costs will start looking a lot prettier to those individuals who currently have private plans. To some people that may seem like a good thing to 'reign in profits' of insurance companies, but let's be completely honest here; those people are morons.
People who complain about profits in insurance understand nothing in how insurance works. For these companies who offer health coverage, it's all a gamble for them. They gamble their money on the idea that you won't need to use the policy that they provide for you. It's a simple numbers game. X amount of people buy a policy, but only Y amount of people cash in on their policy for procedures from time to time. The more people on a plan who don't end up using the coverage, the more money the insurance company not only makes for themselves, but also has to use on those who truly need large scale surgeries. On top of that, all monies that an insurance company collects is secured into an interest bearing account by law and profits from those accounts are then invested even further. Auto insurance works the exact same way. They both weigh risks and either win or lose accordingly based on the risks that they take, and invest their money to cover all incurred costs. Democrats like to use the auto insurance analogy when trying to get people to sign onto a health insurance requirement, but also fail to realize that all insurance policies work the same. Auto, health, life, home owners, etc. they are all fundamentally the same thing, yet Democrats choose to pick on the one in which they think can help them gain ultimate control and tyrannical rule over the people. To show just how dishonest they are about health care reform's true goal, they put harsh restrictions on HSA (Heath Savings Accounts) making them no longer a viable option for health care.
To understand exactly what an HSA is, is to understand true freedom in health insurance. While with insurance you put your money into a communal coffer in which you'll never see your money again, with an HSA plan you're actually possibly saving money for your retirement and future. At the end of the day, all money put into an HSA account is your money. While federal law already restricts these plans now on deposit amounts, they can be very beneficial for younger citizens who want to have an alternative plan when they get older. The choice inevitably becomes theirs on whether to keep the money as a health care plan, or to use it as part of their retirement savings. The beautiful thing about these plans, is that if they are indeed used for health care purposes, then the money is not subject to income tax guidelines. Why would congress in their current health care bill want to restrict and almost demolish such an ideal system for America's twenty or thirty-somethings who are relatively healthy and don't really need an actual health insurance plan? The answer is simple: tyranny. They want to force the youth to continue paying even more into a public coffer in which they have no interest in being a part of themselves. It's just one more tax to add on in addition to social security and medicare.
It truly is that simple for us. Why eliminate all freedom in health care? The government is trying to tell you that you must be covered under some sort of plan, and then on top of that telling you what exactly that plan must entail. They are standing by and telling you that if you don't like these plans, then you can go sit in jail for five years if you don't obey their command. How is that not tyranny? How is completely socializing an industry that works wonderfully when the free-market is applied to it not tyrannical? How is that helping people at all. We haven't even covered how hospital costs will go up and how doctors and nurses will lose their jobs under this new plan, but the writing is on the wall for anyone with common sense. It's as simple as government dictating reimbursement amounts. As long as they do that, then many hospitals and private practices are doomed to poorer staffing or worse, shutting down.
What are we to do as citizens about this debacle of a heath care bill? Really the only thing we can do is sit back and hope. As pointless as that may seem, that's all we have. Millions of people have said they don't want this type of reform. Everyone agrees reform is needed somewhat, but the majority is completely against what this government is trying to offer up. If your car needs a new tire, you don't throw the entire car away. That's what they are doing here though, throwing out the car for a new model. Only instead of trying to upgrade to a Mercedes from a Chevy, they are downgrading from a BMW to a moped. While those little bikes may get you down the road okay, they won't get you there without getting you soaking wet in the rain, nor with great speed.
What we as the people say matters not to this government. They call us names, they say we're like 'AstroTurf' for opposing their ideas on health care. That's not a government that loves its people, nor is it a government that has any fear of its people. No, that's a government that's tyrannical in nature over its people and one that wants to no longer be a democracy nor a republic, but an oligarchy. They want to be a few rich elitists who think they know what's best for everyone else. It's truly a sad day in America and the only thing we have to look forward to after this taxation up the butt with health care is the same raping in the front with cap and trade.
Tyranny has began to run up the shores of these once prosperous United States. A country that was built on freedom, yet is being destroyed from within by the natural inclination of liberty to demolish and government tyranny to grow as the founders warned about. Who knew that they would be so right in so many ways.
